InSite: Energy report on the Web

We all do it at home. When those gas, electric, and water bills come, we close our eyes, open the envelope, then peek at the bad news. Did that cold snap wind up costing us more for heating? Is the new insulation really saving us any money? How could those out-of-town guests possibly have taken that many showers?

Then there’s that most informative piece of information: "Same month last year." That one lets us see how our energy usage stacked up against a comparable period a year earlier.

Did you know you can get all that information for The University of Iowa on the Web?

Tear open the University’s monthly utility bill at www.uiowa.edu/~fusfsg/reports/energy/energy.htm.

Each month, Facilities Services Group publishes a full report, both on paper and electronically. It has information for the campus as a whole, as well as for each building. You can find out how much electricity, water, and chilled water were used by your own building in the past month, as well as in the same month last year. It’s an excellent way to check out how environmentally conscious your department or building is as a whole.

So this month, don’t just examine your own personal use of natural resources. Examine the University’s at www.uiowa.edu/~fusfsg/reports/energy/energy.htm.
