Small business seminar for women

The Women’s Resource and Action Center (WRAC) and the Iowa Women’s Foundation (IWF), along with the Small Business Development Center, will present a series of three seminars entitled "How to start a small business" on May 18 and 25 and June 1. All seminars will be from 6-9pm in PBB. Women of all income levels and business knowledge are encouraged to attend all three workshops, or only those that address their needs.

On May 18 in W401 PBB, Christine Mollenkopf-Pigsley, from the Iowa Women’s Enterprise Center, will show participants how to build a winning business plan. On May 25 in C231 PBB, Maureen Collins-Williams of the University of Northern Iowa Small Business Development Center will offer a hands-on workshop on applying technology to every facet of the small business. On June 1 in W401 PBB, Christine Pacek of the University of Iowa Small Business Center will discuss financing a small business.

Seating and materials are limited. To register for the workshops, contact the Iowa Women’s Foundation at 337-4222 or iwf@avalon.net.

Renew library books now

Books due June 1 and checked out on a faculty loan can now be renewed for the next academic year. Main Library books should be brought to circulation services at the Main Library. Branch library books should be renewed at the owning library. Library staff can provide a list of books checked out when presented with an ID card.

Ask now for pre-fall training help

Each year at this time, the Center for Teaching welcomes requests from programs to participate in their fall training or orientation for new graduate teaching assistants and/or faculty members.

Last August, the center nearly filled its calendar with such events. Departments should contact the center as soon as possible for help in August 2000 and are asked to maintain some flexibility as the requests are scheduled.

To find out how center staff can participate in training events, or to use other center resources such as videotapes during that time, contact Tom Rocklin at (33)5-6048, thomas-rocklin@uiowa.edu, as soon as possible.
