InSite: ISIS is now on the web

Think back to college registration. Filling out a course list by hand. Waiting in line to find out if you got your classes. Waiting to get your grades.

Now Iowa students can do all that and more from home, with the click of a mouse. ISIS is on the web at http://isis.uiowa.edu.

Previously, students could register by computer, but only at an ITC or by telnet over a modem. Now, they can visit the ISIS web site from any computer and perform a number of different jobs. They can register for courses, view their current schedule, check their U-bill, and review their grades for the last four semesters. They can even update their address and phone information in the University’s records.

One feature that is expected to cut down on a lot of telephone requests is the financial assistance section, due to come on line July 1. Here, students will be able to check on the status of their application for aid. The site will tell them where they stand in the process, from materials still needed to a web version of their award letter.

My UIowa is a feature that students should like. It’s a personalized web service page. My UIowa will keep track of a student’s favorite web sites and access them from any location. It lets the user send and receive e-mail from any location. And it has an on-line survey that allows students to sound off on a variety of topics.

While you must be a registered student to make full use of ISIS on the web, anybody can take a demonstration tour that shows the full power of the site. Just log on using the word "demo" as your name and as your password. Even without logging on, you can use the powerful course list feature. It’s the first fully searchable on-line counterpart to the printed schedule of courses.
