Peggy Burke, emeritus professor of sport, health, leisure, and physical studies, winner of a 1999 Pathfinder Award from the National Association for Girls and Women in Sport. K.B. Chandran, professor and chair of biomedical engineering, recipient of this years Theo C. Pilkington Outstanding Educator Award of the Biomedical Engineering Division of the American Society for Engineering Education. Patricia Clinton, clinical assistant professor of nursing, named Nurse Practitioner of the Year by the Iowa Association of Nurse Practitioners. Barbara Dewey, director of information and research services at UI Libraries, awarded an outstanding paper prize by the Association for the Advancement of Computing in Education. Melanie Dreher, professor and dean of the College of Nursing, named to the National Institute of Healths Council of Public Representatives. Sarah Farmer, assistant professor of history, recipient of a research fellowship award from the German Marshall Fund of the United States for July 1999 through June 2000. John F. Fieselmann, associate professor of internal medicine, elected to a four-year term as governor of the Iowa chapter of the American College of Physicians-American Society of Internal Medicine. Rose Marie Friedrich, associate professor of nursing, named to the peer review committee of the National Institute of Mental Health. Paul Greenough, professor of history, recipient of a fellowship from the University of California Humanities Research Institute for January-June 2000. Marilynne Robinson, professor in the Writers Workshop, winner of the 1999 PEN/Spielvogel-Diamonstein Award for the Art of the Essay for her book The Death of Adam. Robert G. Robinson, professor and head of psychiatry, awarded the annual American Psychiatric Association Award for Research. John Beldon Scott, professor of art and art history, recipient of a senior fellowship at the Standford Humanities Center for the academic year 1999-2000. Rachel Stewart, web editor, and Carol Harker, communications director, both of alumni services, winners of the gold medal from the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education in the category of web sites for the Alumni Associations site at www.biz.uiowa.edu/iowalum. Russell Valentino, assistant professor of Russian, recipient of a Fulbright-Hayes Faculty Research Abroad Program grant for June 1999-May 2000. James Van Allen, emeritus professor of physics and astronomy, awarded an honorary doctor of humane letters degree from Johns Hopkins University. Stuart Weinstein, professor of orthpaedic surgery, recipient of a $50,000 Award for Distinguished Achievement in Orthopaedic Research and silver medallion from the American Orthopaedic Association. Patti ONeill, printing department, Tom Jorgensen, Rex Bavousett, university relations publications, Mary Lynn Grant, presidents office, and Osha Gray Davidson, winners of a silver medal from the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education in the category of individual fund-raising pieces for the 1998 University report, Surpassing Expectations. |
