Dean search under way

On Dec. 1, Provost Jon Whitmore charged a newly formed search committee to identify final candidates for the position of dean of the Graduate College and associate provost for graduate education. Upon Graduate College Dean Leslie B. Sims’ promotion to vice provost on July 1, 2000, Whitmore appointed Professor John C. Keller as interim dean of the Graduate College for the period of the search. The search committee has begun national advertising for the position.

Susan Birrell, professor of health, leisure, and sport studies, is chair of the search committee. Other members are Joseli Alves-Dunkerson, Graduate Student Senate; Connie Brothers, Writers’ Workshop administration; Daniel Collins, professor of accounting; Robert Deschenes, chair, Interdisciplinary Genetics Program; Michael Duffel, assistant dean of the College of Pharmacy; Kyle Gassiott, president, Graduate Student Senate; Jennifer Glass, professor of sociology; Judith Liskin-Gasparro, associate professor of Spanish and Portuguese; Linda Maxson, dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences; Paul Pomrehn, professor of community and behavioral health; Christopher Squier, associate provost for health sciences (ex officio); Steve Thunder-McGuire, associate professor of curriculum and instruction; William Welburn, assistant dean of the Graduate College; Janet Williams, associate professor of nursing; and Marc Wold, assistant dean of the College of Medicine.
