Celebrating women's history, achievements in March

Event recognizes excellence among University women

Plan now to attend A Celebration of Excellence and Achievement Among Women, the University’s annual tribute to the accomplishments of all women at the UI, from 4 to 6:30 p.m., March 27 in the IMU Main Lounge. A reception begins at 4 p.m., followed by the awards program at 5 p.m. and is free and open to the public.

A celebration dinner follows at 6:30 p.m., with proceeds to benefit the Johnson County Sexual Assault Response Team. Announcements and dinner invitations will arrive through campus mail. This year’s recipients of the Distinguished Achievement Award are Christine Grant, retired director of Women’s Athletics, and Margery Wolf, professor of anthropology.

University, local organizations celebrate women’s history

Celebrating Women Locally, Connecting Women Globally will be the theme for a series of events being planned by several University of Iowa offices and other local organizations for the month of March. The events will celebrate International Women’s Day and Women’s History Month.

A main event is the celebration of International Women’s Day on March 8 in the Richey Ballroom at the IMU. The event starts at 7 p.m. and will feature international food and entertainment. Tickets are available in advance for $10 ($5 for students), or at the door for $12 ($7 for students). Tickets are available at the Emma Goldman Clinic or by calling the Iowa United Nations Association, 337-7290.
