Staff Council election results, new officers announced
University of Iowa staff members have elected 11 new members of Staff Council
and another staff member has been appointed to fill a vacant term. Staff
Council represents professional and scientific and special services staff
members who are not covered by a bargaining unit.
The new councilors will begin their three-year terms in April.
Administrative/Academic
- Charles Eastham, computer consultant, College of Medicine,
a current Staff Council member elected to a second term;
- Susan Felker, director, Henry B. Tippie College of Business
undergraduate programs office;
- David P. Fitzgerald, senior career adviser, Career Development
Services;
- Donna Hirst, head of Library Automation, a current councilor
elected to a second term;
- Cheryl Reardon, administrative associate, Department of Physics
and Astronomy;
- Mona Shaw, director of communications, Division of Performing
Arts;
- Amy Welter, senior accountant, Internal Audit;
- Dongwang Liu, assistant director of International Programs
in the Center for Asian and Pacific Studies, will be appointed to serve
the unexpired term of a former Staff Council member. The term runs until
April 2003.
Professional Health Care/Nursing
- Jan Christensen, nurse manager, nursing, and an incumbent staff
councilor;
- Donna Muller, hospital human resource specialist, UIHC Staff
Relations, an incumbent Staff Council member;
- Jeanette Wigim, nurse manager, nursing services.
Special Services (merit supervisory exempt/confidential)
- Vicki L. Brown, secretary IV, pathology;
- Pamela Kacena, library assistant IV, media services.
J. David Martin, head of the Business Library, was elected vice president/president-elect
at the Staff Council meeting on March 14. Ella Born, a research assistant
in Jeff Fields lab, was elected secretary. The new president of
Staff Council is Pat Arkema, administrative assistant, Outcomes and Resource
Management, General Hospital.
Staff Council represents approximately 4,000 non-bargaining professional
and scientific and merit supervisory exempt/confidential staff members.
As a University-wide representative body, Staff Council members promote
communication among staff, central administration, Faculty Senate, and
UI Student Government.
