Joseph A. Buckwalter,
head of orthopaedic surgery, selected as a member of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh.

Alan Christensen, associate professor of psychology, to receive the 2000 American Psychological Association Distinguished Scientific Award for Early Career Contribution to Psychology in the area of health psychology.

Mary Sue Coleman, president, appointed to the Knight Foundation Commission on International Athletics.

R. Edward Howell, director and CEO of the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, appointed vice chair of the Iowa Business Council. Also, selected by the National Institutes of Health to serve as a member of the board of governors of the Warren Grant Magnuson Clinical Center.

Lin Larson, Health Science Relations, and Julie Longo, Printing Department, awarded the Platinum Scroll First Place Award from the International College of Dentists, U.S.A. Section, Journalism Awards for the College of Dentistry’s publication The Dental Link.

Lin Larson, Connie Peterson, and Anne Duggan, Health Science Relations, awarded first prize in the Association of American Medical Colleges "shoestring" competition for small-budget publications for "The Road to Becoming a Physician."

Janet K. Specht, assistant professor of nursing, and Janet K. Williams, associate professor of nursing, to be inducted as fellows of the American Academy of Nursing.

Himie Voxman, director emeritus of the School of Music, recipient of a Lifetime Achievement Award from the International Clarinet Association.
