Apply soon for CIFRE–research enhancement funds

The Office of the Vice President for Research is pleased to announce the ninth annual competition for support of scholarly and creative projects through the Central Investment Fund for Research Enhancement (CIFRE). Eligibility includes all tenured and tenure-track faculty and all research scientists, but not those who received a CIFRE award during AY 1998-99 or AY 1999-00. Preference will be given to applicants in the early stages of their careers.

The funds provide support to faculty and research scientists in all areas of scholarly endeavor: arts and humanities, biological sciences, physical/mathematical sciences, and the social sciences. Awards will assist in developing new initiatives, supporting new directions in scholarly/creative activity, and enhancing the competitiveness of applications for external research funding (e.g., pilot projects). Applicants may request support up to $10,000 per project for research personnel, equipment, supplies, payment to subjects, computer and other related services, and project-related travel. Requests for smaller amounts will permit a larger number of awards to be made.

If you are a full-time tenured or tenure-track faculty member or a research scientist and have not received an announcement via campus mail, or if you would like further information, contact Larry Rettig, 201 GILH, (33)5-2119, or
lawrence-rettig@uiowa.edu.

Completed applications are due in the Office of the Vice President for Research by 5:00 p.m. on Oct. 16.
