The Office of the Vice President for Research announces the fourth annual competition for the Biosciences Initiative Pilot Grant Program. This initiative will support new multidisciplinary collaborative research linkages among two or more faculty members or research scientists conducting independent research. For this current competition, up to three proposals at $50,000 each may be funded. Eligible research will be limited to six themes:
  • Developmental biology/genetics/functional genomics

  • Neurosciences (basic, behavioral, and cognitive)

  • Molecular recognition/structural biology

  • Biocatalysis, drug design, and pharmaceutics

  • Biomaterials/tissue engineering

  • Bioinformatics/mathematical biology

Tenured, tenure-track, and clinical-track faculty, as well as research scientists conducting independent research in the biosciences, are invited to apply. A mailing of the details of this program also will be sent to collegiate and department executive officers in the biosciences.

Details and application forms for this program are available on the web at www.uiowa.edu/~vpr/research/bioinit.htm.

The deadline for submitting applications is Oct. 11. Applicants will be notified of review results in November. Further information and guidelines for application are available from Larry Rettig, 201 GILH, (33)5-2140, or lawrence-rettig@uiowa.edu.
