Cultural Diversity Festival promotes 'Unifying Humanity'

The University of Iowa will present the 13th annual Celebrating Cultural Diversity Festival from noon to 5 p.m, Feb. 24, at the UI Field House. This year’s theme is “Unifying Humanity.”

“The annual Cultural Diversity Festival provides a variety of students an opportunity to share their cultural heritage and traditions with each other and the local community,” says Helen Jameson, of International Programs, the festival committee chair. “This event provides everyone with an opportunity to interact, learn, and appreciate each other.”

This event, which is free and open to the public, is a multicultural festival designed to give members of The University of Iowa and the local community an opportunity to learn about each other through a variety of interactive programs. The event annually attracts an estimated 5,000 people.

During the celebration, more than 60 events promote domestic and international diversity through food, games, songs, dances, cookery demonstrations, storytelling, sports, and other educational programming.

The event also is sponsored by the following UI offices, departments, units, and entities, which comprise the Celebrating Cultural Diversity Festival committee: Admissions, International Programs and The Stanley-UI Foundation Support Organization, Office of Student Life, Opportunity at Iowa, Recreational Services, Residence Services, Special Support Services, and UI Staff Council.

The Qwest Foundation is the official corporate sponsor of this event.

For more information, contact Helen Jameson at (33)5-3584 or helen-jameson@uiowa.edu or visit the web site at www.uiowa.edu/~intl/festival.
