WRAC celebrates 30th anniversary with speaker Dolores Huerta, conference, events

The Women’s Resource and Action Center at The University of Iowa (WRAC), founded in 1971, is one of the oldest university women’s centers in the nation and has received several awards for its work on behalf of women and others during its 30-plus years of activism and education.

As part of the academic-year celebration of its 30th anniversary, WRAC will present Global Feminisms: Activism, Art, and Alternatives, a conference to be held on the UI campus March 4-9. Highlights of the week include a keynote address by noted activist, educator, and cofounder of the United Farm Workers labor union, Dolores Huerta, at 7 p.m., March 6, in Macbride Auditorium. The week will culminate with the 4th annual Sister Connection conference, designed especially for women students of color. It will be held on March 9 in the Becker Communication Studies Building and will feature workshops, networking opportunities, and a keynote address by UI Professor of Anatomy Jean Y. Jew.

All Global Feminisms events are free and open to the public. Detailed information can be found by visiting the WRAC web site at www.uiowa.edu/~wrac/Events.html, or by calling (33)5-1486.
