Family Services programs

Family Services will be sponsoring one-on-one elder care guidance, information, and referral as well as a series of free community seminars.

  • Staff from Elder Services, Inc., will be on the west side of campus April 16 and May 14 and the east side of campus May 7 to discuss concerns faculty and staff may have about their elder parents. Sessions of up to one hour will be available 1-5pm each day. For more information or to schedule an appointment, contact Jane Holland at (33)5-1371 or jane-holland@uiowa.edu.

  • The seminar series includes "Family dynamics: Relationships with parents," April 9; "Knowing when it is time to act and where to begin," April 16; "The legal and financial side of elder caregiving," April 23; and "End-of-life issues," April 30. The programs run from 7 to 9pm at Parkview Evangelical Free Church, 15 Foster Rd. For more information, call 358-2767.

Bioinformatics workshop in Ames

The University and Iowa State University will present a Joint Bioinformatics Workshop, including a survey of emerging bioinformatics activities in university research labs and Iowa industry, April 5-6, at the Molecular Biology Building, ISU, Ames.

Staff scholarships available

Staff members who wish to begin or continue their undergraduate education can apply for the Robert F. Ray Staff Scholarship offered through the Division of Continuing Education.

New WRAC support groups

The Womenís Resource and Action and Center is offering 16 support and discussion groups on a wide variety of topics, for the second half of the spring semester.

Open house for State Room

The University community is invited to check out recent renovations and upgrades to the State Room during an open house, 11am-1pm, April 18, second floor IMU.

The State Room, with a seating capacity of about 100, is available for meetings, private parties, or banquets. The open house will include tours and the IMU chefs preparing appetizers and desserts. Staff from several IMU departments also will be available to answer questions.

Interdisciplinary poster session

The fourth annual Student Interdisciplinary Health Research Poster Session will be held 10am-1pm, April 9, in the atrium of Eckstein Medical Research Building.

The session will provide an opportunity for students working on health-related research to interact with other students from around campus. The session is open to undergraduate as well as graduate students.

TWIST applications available

Applications are now being accepted for fall 2002 TWIST course web sites. TWIST is a collaborative program that partners faculty members with librarians to develop course-specific resource pages.
