Partners for Progress wants your opinions A new Partners for Progress team is being developed on campus to give University of Iowa employees an opportunity to be visible and actively engaged in improving state processes. Partners for Progress is one of three parallel initiatives called Reconnect Iowans with the Government, designed to make Iowa state government more efficient and responsive to Iowans. The first initiative identified programs that no longer added value, duplicated other services, or contracted services with little accountability. Another initiative reviewed state regulations to determine ways that the rule-making process and actual state rules could be streamlined. The campus team is charged with promoting quality practices. It includes department directors, legislators, union leadership, middle management, and front-line employees. Co-chaired by Jan Cordeman, president of ASFCME/Iowa Council 61, and Cynthia Eisenhauer, Iowa Department of Management, the team includes 18 employees on a leadership team and 58 who are quality coordinators. Each agency has a minimum of two quality coordinators, with equal representation from management and labor. The teams have worked for two years to develop a culture of continuous improvement that encourages employee participation at all levels. Iowa citizens and employees may suggest improvements in state services, share ideas on making state government more efficient, and identify ways to improve the services you provide or obstacles to getting your work done. As the program develops, employees will be involved in a pilot project implementing an improvement idea or serve on a committee to assess how well the program is working. To submit ideas and suggestions, use the form at http://www.reconnectingiowans.org/satisfaction_guaranteed/employee_suggestions.htm.
