Awards in support of instruction announced

Collegiate Teaching Awards

The Council on Teaching and the Office of the Provost invite nominations for the annual Collegiate Teaching Awards. This year, 16 clinical-track or tenure-track faculty members will receive the awards in recognition of their excellence in teaching. The awards of $2,000 each will be distributed across colleges. Four awards will be made in Liberal Arts and Sciences, two in Medicine, and one each in Business, Dentistry, Education, Engineering, Law, Nursing, Pharmacy, and Public Health. In addition, two at-large awards will be made.

Because each college has developed its own process for review of these awards, nominators should contact the dean’s office for their respective college to determine who is coordinating their review process. Nominations are due to the college representatives by Oct. 19. Nominations (the original plus six copies) should then be forwarded to the Office of the Provost, 111 JH, by 4pm on Nov. 2.

Nomination forms are available on the Council on Teaching web site at www.uiowa.edu/~cot. For more information, contact Amy Kirkey at (33)5-0148 or amy-kirkey@uiowa.edu.

Instructional Improvement Awards

The Council on Teaching is now accepting proposals from faculty and staff directly involved with instructional support for special funding to support the costs of instructional projects that will make exceptional and specific contributions to instruction. These awards ordinarily do not exceed a funding level of $5,000. Proposals likely to be funded are those that lead to significant improvements in instruction by using innovative techniques. Both small- and large-scale proposals are encouraged.

The call for proposals is available on the Council on Teaching web site at www.uiowa.edu/~cot. Proposals are due to the Office of the Provost by 4pm on Oct. 12. For more information, contact Amy Kirkey at (33)5-0148 or amy-kirkey@uiowa.edu.
