Budget workshop

The Iowa Women’s Foundation, the Women’s Resource and Action Center, and the Iowa City Public Library will begin the 2001-02 Women and Money Series with “Saving money, saving time: Living your dreams on a budget,” 6:30-8:30pm, Oct. 18, in Meeting Room A of the Iowa City Public Library.

Participants will learn how to make room in their budgets to reserve savings—and energy—for the things most important to them. A question-and-answer session will follow. Although the workshops in the series are developed for women, everyone is welcome to attend. Seating is limited.

For more information or to register, contact the Iowa Women’s Foundation at 337-4222 or lisa@iawf.org.

Internet course

UI Libraries will twice this fall offer an advanced Internet class, “Exploring the invisible web: How to get the information you really want with search engines.”

The class will emphasize effective search strategies for use with various search engines and will explore the concept of the “invisible web” resources that are routinely missed by public search engines. The classes will be offered 1-3pm, Oct. 13, and 10am-noon, Nov. 7, in the Information Arcade classroom on the first floor of the Main Library.

For more information or to register, call (33)5-5299 or stop by the Main Library Information Desk. Seating is limited.

Maxivan safety training

Fleet Services has developed a training program that will enable faculty, staff, and students to safely operate maxivans from the fleet and therefore meet department safety requirements.

The program consists of watching a videotape, completing a workbook, and taking a familiarization drive. Cost of the program depends on the number of participants: $39 for one person, $28 per person for a group of 2-3, or $24 per person for a group of 4-5.

For more information, call Mike Wilson, Fleet Services manager, at (38)4-0564.

For more information, contact Lori Penaluna at lori-penaluna@uiowa.edu or (35)3-5414 or visit www.mac.drake.edu/org/women/wayup.html.
