University Theatres Second Stage will present two connected masterpieces of ancient Greek tragedy, Agamemnon by Aeschylus and Electra by Sophocles, through Nov. 4 in David Thayer Theatre at the Theatre Building. New forum on Catholic faith

The Journeys in Faith Speaker’s Forum, a new lecture series to address issues of Catholic faith, has formed as an outgrowth of a weekly discussion and support group.

The first presentation will be “The Roman Catholic in modern America: Bearing witness to what?” Reverend Lawrence C. Smith, 7:30pm, Nov. 9, Buchanan Aud. PBB.

The forum, which is free and open to the public, is sponsored by the Newman Catholic Center and the University Counseling Service.



Elder care guidance

Would you like to speak to a social worker privately concerning some of your elder care responsibilities? Do you have questions about your older parent’s housing situation or health needs? Would you like to know what community resources are available to older adults?

If so, staff from Elder Services, Inc., will be on the east side of campus Nov. 6 and Dec. 11 and on the west side of campus Nov. 13 and Dec. 4 to provide one-on-one guidance, information, and referral service. Sessions of up to one hour will be available 1-5pm each day.

Free workshop on computer security

Information Technology Services (ITS) announces a free campus workshop on information technology security issues, 8:30am-4:30pm, Nov. 8, Illinois Room IMU. Systems administrators, technical support personnel, and managers who support groups of campus computer users are especially invited to attend. For more information, visit www.uiowa.edu/~security.



WRAC programs

The Women’s Resource and Action Center (WRAC) will offer programs this month as part of two ongoing series:

• “Her-story: Feminism in Iowa,” 7-9pm, Nov. 8, Ohio State Room IMU, will be a discussion of the history of feminism in the state of Iowa. The program, which is part of the Sheroes series, is free and open to the public.

• “Grassroots grant writing: Get that grant!,” 9am-4pm, Nov. 10, IMU, is the next seminar in the Social Change Training series. The workshop will focus on strategies and methods for effective grant writing for nonprofit organizations. There is a $25 fee.

• “The classroom: A place of comfort or conflict,” noon-1:30pm, Nov. 8, 4039 LIB, is part of the Talking About Teaching series. Bring your lunch and join the conversation.

• “Clips—Provocative examples of student engagement,” noon-1:30pm, Nov. 13, 345 IMU, is part of the Films at Noon series. Bring a lunch and view a 30-40 minute video. A discussion will follow.

UI directories now available

Campus delivery of University phone books (Herd books) is now available. Departments may order quantities of directories with a General Stores order form, requesting stock item #10000. Directories cost $3.45.

Student, faculty, staff, and office listings also are available on-line by clicking “Phonebook/E-mail” on the University homepage, www.uiowa.edu. The on-line listings are regularly updated throughout the year.



Classes offer health tips

The Healthwise Program, sponsored by UI Wellness and UI Health Plans, is offering health classes noon-1pm, Nov. 14, at the College of Nursing;

1:30-2:30pm, Nov. 15, at Oakdale Campus; and noon-1pm, Dec. 6, in Seebohm Conference Room, EMRB.

The classes offer an interactive opportunity to learn tips on treating individual health problems or those of your family. Topics of self-care are personalized to the audience and can range from home treatment of the flu to managing chronic health problems. Participants will receive a Healthwise Handbook.

Cost is free to UICare members and $7 for all other participants (for the cost of the handbook). For more information, call (38)4-8442.
