Improving Our Workplace Award (IOWA) winners announced for fall 2001

University of Iowa staff members were honored for their contribution to improving the quality of the workplace. The IOWA (Improving Our Workplace Awards) winners are listed below, along with their nominators. Teams

• Emergency Procedures Committee, Academic Advising Center—Julie Claus, Darcie Davis-Gage, Caroline Dieterle, Pat Folsom, Peter Gerhard, Jill Harmande, Chuck Hauck, Ron Hillis, Lisa Ingram, Rachelle Tsachor, and Ginger Russell.

This team developed procedures that address safety and emergency issues, and continues to provide interactive, ongoing training for staff. Nominated by Diane Hauser and Jennifer Joslin.

• Oxygen Regulator Inventory Management Analysis Team—Jackie Heinle, Bob Kempf, Mike Minchke, Barbara Schuessler, Sheila White, Denise Hochstedler, Sue Miller, Steve Poggenpohl, Twila Whipple, (team leader), and Terri Stoner, (facilitator).

This team developed and implemented a system to upgrade and standardize oxygen cylinders and regulators at great cost savings. Nominated by Terri Stoner.

• College of Medicine, Office of Student Affairs and Curriculum, Financial Aid Unit—Linda Bissell, Diane Hebl, Penny Rembolt.

This team researched and promoted a financial aid program that has saved UI medical students over $3 million dollars in tuition. Nominated by Peter Densen.

Individuals

• Donna Mullink, Office of Statewide Clinical Education Programs.

Donna spearheaded the project of reorganizing graphics production, including retention and retrieval; and brought the total project to in-house team production. Nominated by Roger Tracy.

• Susan Harman, University Bookstore.

Susan implemented a cross-training program that enhances co-worker relationships across units that result in improved customer service at University Book Stores. Nominated by Lindsay Current and Patrick Sullivan.

• Michelle Seaba, Histopathology Laboratory, Anatomic Pathology.

Michelle continuously seeks to cut costs at the lab and informs and trains co-workers in practices that conserve equipment and supplies. Nominated by Sue Zaleski.
