W-2 forms available early to users of human resources self-service site

University W-2 tax forms for 2002 will be available earlier than usual this year to staff and faculty members who have chosen to receive forms on the human resources self-service web site.

Making that choice also can help save some University funds that can be used better elsewhere. Each year, the University spends about $15,000 to print and mail W-2 forms to employees.

By federal rules, the University must have employees’ approval to deliver W-2 information electronically instead of on paper. To give that approval, visit the self- service site at https://hris.uiowa.edu. After logging in, select “Form Delivery Options” under “Personal Information.” Choose “Stop Delivery” for the W-2 form or any other forms an employee would rather receive on the web. Employees have until Jan. 10 to make the choice. If they change their minds, they can revoke the choice before the deadline.

W-2 information will appear on the HR Web site about a week before paper forms can be mailed and will remain available until Oct. 15. Staff and faculty will be notified when the form is available. Those who have forgotten their password can click on the “Don’t Remember Your Password?” option. A new password will be e-mailed.
