InSite: Research assistants form new group and on-line forum

A new tool has been developed for P&S research assistants (RAs) in the health and natural sciences. Several RAs have developed the RA Network, a loose coalition of scientific employees. Using the network, RAs may share ideas, information, and encouragement within the circle of scientific employees.

A web board at www.medicine.uiowa.edu:8080/~ranetwork is available for RAs to post messages and discuss subjects.

The purpose of the RA Network is to provide a forum for professional development for scientific employees, particularly those choosing a science as a career field. An e-mail list has been created to send out information more efficiently.

“This will be a great way for RAs to discuss issues unique to our line of work, exchange technical knowledge, bring in guest speakers, and encourage RAs to present their research data,” says Diana Boeglin, research assistant III in the Department of Urology and a network member.

Barbara Bennett, staff benefits specialist, will speak on maximizing TIAA-CREF returns at the group’s meeting at 9 a.m. Feb. 20 in Seebohm Aud. EMRB.
