WorkLife selects two more UI SMART winners The Unique Ideas Save Money and Reward Thriftiness (UI SMART) Program has announced two 2003 winners: • Trudy Laffoon, clinical director, University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics Integrated Call Center: suggested a better way to provide complimentary parking for UIHC employees visiting UIHC clinics. • Keith Clasen, administrative assistant, Facilities Services Group: suggested discontinuing the process of automatically printing copies of reports for departments that are available on-line. Since its inception in 2001, the UI SMART Program has received more than 350 suggestions for saving money on campus, according to Pat Kenner, program coordinator. From those suggestions, 18 faculty and staff members each collected $100 for ideas that were implemented. Submissions have dealt with energy and electrical savings, information distribution on campus, and human resources policies. Others concern University of Iowa Health Care, parking, facilities management, departmental policies, purchasing, travel, and Information Technology Services. To submit an idea, see www.uiowa.edu/hr/worklife/SMART or contact Kenner at 121-50 USB. Be specific about the issue and provide as much detail as possible as to how the University could implement the suggestion. The UI SMART Program works in conjunction with Gov. Tom Vilsack's Partners for Progress program. For more information about the governor's program, visit www.reconnectingiowans.org/index.html.
