Improving Our Workplace Award (IOWA) winners, Spring 2003 Teams Education for Nursing Staff via Computer (Mark Miksch, with assistance from Jo Eland, Patrick Whetstone, Patricia Donahue, Connie Delany, Scott Fiddelke, Christy Stevens, Marilyn Knight, Les Finken, Greyson Purcell, Jack Pinette, Phil Potter, Ken Clinkenbeard, Lou Ann Montgomery, Cindy Penney, Diana Fritz). Initiated the idea of delivering education for the department through digital, streaming videos, and blackboard programming. With assistance from staff from five departments, 2,000 staff members can access training and testing in a convenient and timely manner. Nominated by Lou Ann Montgomery. Ergonomics Team (Lou Ann Montgomery, Karen Stenger, David Ambrisco, Eric Briesemeister, Richard Dorzweiler, Linda Fink, Bev Folkedahl, Ernest Found, Mike Garvin, Georgina Glass, David Hackbarth, Ellen Hergert, Chuck Kupka, Bruce Miller, Doug Robertson, Judy Swafford, Mary Thompson). Reviewed, analyzed, and trained staff in using new appropriate equipment to safely lift or slide patients. Staff injuries are projected to be reduced by 60 percent. Nominated by Ellen Cram. UIHC Job-shadowing Committee (Diana Leventry, Susie Goodell, Norma Ward, Ellen Twinam, Mary Ameche, Christine Scheetz, Diane Denneny, Lou Ann Montgomery). Organized and extended job-shadowing opportunities for youth at UIHC to 20 different departments for three annual events using three tracks (Clinical, Administrative, and Facilities and Hospital Services). WorkflowTeam (Elaine Haddy, Larry Meyer, Mike Kaplan, Pat Cowles, Gertrude Nath, Laura Reed, Dan Schropp, Katie Villhauer, Sue Engler, Pat Meskimen). Designed, developed, communicated, and delivered training of the transaction and electronic routing system for Human Resources. The Workflow system is both flexible enough to be used by other UI departments in the future and easy for employees of all levels to use. Nominated by Sue Buckley.
Brad Allison, Public Safety. Developed The Survivor Support Resource Packet for survivors of assault to inform them of their rights and the support available to them on campus and in the community. Nominated by Chuck Green. Mary Moyers, Material Services/CSS. Recognized four process problems in her work area and devised solutions so that her unit works safer and purchases are more effective. Nominated by Mike Murphy. Gwen Senio, Rehabilitation Therapies. Facilitates the Family Advisory Council and the Youth Advisory Council that partner with the Children's Hospital of Iowa. Her efforts have supported family input into facility planning, education, and training of health care professionals, and helped to develop support between families of hospitalized children.
