Flags fly again

Old Capitol dome with American flag and Iowa flag waving in the wind.
Flags are flying atop the Old Capitol for the first time since a fire destroyed the building’s dome in November 2001. A short flag-raising ceremony with comments from UI President David Skorton marked the occasion on May 13. A new bell, which was installed in December, was rung for the first time at the event. The two were the among the first on the scene the morning of the fire and tried to extinguish the blaze from the interior. Photo by Tom Jorgensen.
