The UI Office for Study Abroad invites faculty to
apply for opportunities to teach or study on University
Studies Abroad Consortium (USAC) study abroad programs.
Approximately 100 UI students participate in programs
administered by USAC each academic year.
Teaching abroad for summer 2005, fall 2005, and
spring 2006
Qualified faculty are sought to teach academically
appropriate courses in USAC study abroad programs
in Chile, China, Costa Rica, the Czech Republic,
England, France, Germany, Ghana, Italy, and Spain.
Summer faculty teach one 1-3 s.h. course, while semester
faculty will be asked to teach two 3 s.h. courses.
Semester-long appointments require departmental approval
and cover salary and airfare. Summer appointments
include a stipend and airfare. Applicants must be
returning to employment at The University of Iowa
following the term abroad. More information and an

Faculty International Development Awards for summer
2004 Faculty and professional staff who wish to gain
language proficiency or area studies exposure are
invited to apply for a summer 2004 Faculty International
Development Award (FIDA). The awards allow faculty
to participate with U.S. undergraduates in the following
USAC summer programs:
• Language: Chile, Costa Rica, Spain, Italy,
Germany, China (June or July), or France (June only);
or
• Area studies: Ghana or Czech Republic (June-July).
FIDAs include the cost of program tuition and a
$1,500 stipend intended to cover the airline ticket
and a portion of housing costs. Applicants must be
returning to employment at The University of Iowa.
