It will take time for them to realize the importance of platelets in modulating adaptive immunity. Timothy

Racing is a kind of art that
has many of the demands surgery has. You have to
get on the edge. If you’re not striving for
excellence, you’re

I can create a better pool of students when interns are paid. David C. Kelzenberg, internship coordinator in
the Career Center, reporting that most of his students pursue paid internships,
especially
in a weakened

In polls, everyone is always trying to get
a random sample. The last thing we want is a random
sample. We want the best and the brightest
traders. George Neumann, George Daly Professor of
Economics, explaining the
ins and outs of the Iowa Electronic Markets—which received publicity after
the Pentagon
nixed plans for a futures market that would predict terrorist acts (NPR’s Morning
Edition, July 30).
A woman
could be sufficiently depressed that she would hold the belief that her child
was better
off dead than alive, and this was a positive
thing. Michael O’Hara, professor of psychology, commenting on postpartum depression (Minneapolis Star-Tribune,
Aug.
11).
Very little seems to be known about it from the teacher
standpoint. Most teachers aren’t trained to recognize that it can be
a health or medical problem. Christopher Cooper, associate professor
of urology, referring to voiding accidents or other urination problems in
children and encouraging
teachers to become better educated on the subject (WCVB-TV Boston,
Aug. 11).
Last year’s action movie hero can be forgotten, but
once you’re a
governor, you’re always a governor. Bluford Adams, associate
professor of English, offering his take on celebrity politicians such
as Arnold Schwarzenegger,
who is running in the California gubernatorial recall election
(The Christian Science Monitor, Aug.
12).
Often, the perception is that Iowa is a cultural wasteland. Judith
Hurtig, codirector of Hancher Auditorium, touting Hancher to visitors as
one of the state’s many sophisticated cultural offerings (The Chronicle
of
Higher Education, Aug. 15).
