Critical care: College of Dentistry looks back on tradition, ahead to breakthroughs

This month, the College of Dentistry begins celebrating The University of Iowa's 125-year-old tradition of dental care, research, and outreach.

More than 80 percent of the state’s practicing dentists are alumni of the University’s College of Dentistry, which provides a strong curriculum in problem-based and experiential learning, dentistry for geriatric patients and adults with special needs, and outreach in Iowa communities.

The college's impact on dentistry goes beyond training—research plays a key role as well. Over the past three decades, the college has emerged as an international leader in research on tooth decay, fluoride, and cleft palate and other craniofacial anomalies.

Going to MAUI: University replaces student info system

The University of Iowa is replacing its 30-year-old homegrown mainframe-based student information system with a new web system. Sponsored by the UI Office of the Executive Vice President and Provost, the system is called MAUI, an acronym for Made at the University of Iowa.
