May 29, TuesdayThe Active Office: Strength Training with Bands—12:15–12:45 p.m.—Looking for ways to energize the workday without taking a lot of time or space? Using strength training bands is a great way to increase strength with no bulky, heavy equipment. They provide a range of intensities for most muscle groups. Bands are great for travel, desk storgage, or to keep in the car between events. Participants in this course will understand how to safely use bands to strengthen the entire body. Enjoy participating in the exercises during the demonstration. Register by May 22. May 31, ThursdayEffective People Skills—8:30 a.m.–noon—Building a trusting environment is the foundation of effective communication with others. Learn to strengthen your own behavioral awareness, enhance interpersonal communication skills, and acquire tools to increase your assertiveness. Register by May 24. The Active Office: Office Exercise–No Equipment Necessary—12:15–12:45 p.m.—Looking for ways to energize the workday without taking a lot of time or space? Strength training doesn’t need to be done in a gym or with lots of equipment. This feature shows individuals how to use their body as a weight for all intensities and abilities. Participants in this course will leave with the knowledge of how to strengthen the entire body in 15 minutes with no equipment, and can be done right in the office. June 5, TuesdaySeven Habits Training (Franklin-Covey Certified 3-Day Program)—8 a.m.–5 p.m.—This program teaches inside-out improvement: first building your personal trustworthiness, then creating trust on an interpersonal level to improve relationships. Program continues Wednesday, June 6, and Thursday, June 7. Fee: $225. Register by May 24. How to Achieve Financial Security on a Middle-Class Income—noon–1 p.m.—This class will explore three critical success factors for achieving financial success. Register by May 29. Basic English Skills for Workplace Safety & Success—3:30–5 p.m.—This series will help non-native English speakers sharpen their basic English communication skills, thereby increasing productivity and efficiency in their role at the University. June 13, WednesdayAttitude: The Choice is Yours!—8:30–11:30 a.m.—Discover how influential your attitude is to your happiness, success, and the results you get on the job, in your career, and with other people at work and at home. Sexual Harassment and Violence: UI Policies and Resources—11 a.m.–noon—This educational program examines sexual harassment (including sexual assault) as a form of sex discrimination and emphasizes the University’s Policy on Sexual Harassment. Participants will learn about specific behaviors that may be prohibited by the University policy, and their rights and responsibilities as a University community member. Register by June 6. Introduction to Investing—noon–1 p.m. or 5–6 p.m.—This class reviews the importance of saving. Common “loanership” and “ownership” investments, including stocks, bonds, mutual funds, and annuities will be discussed. Register by June 6. June 14, ThursdayProTrav Training—10:30 a.m.–noon—This course will provide departmental staff instruction on reconciling their UI Procurement card, as well as obtaining out-of-pocket reimbursement for travel that has been done on behalf of the University using the online application.
