“Quote....Endquote”

“I think our jobs should be bigger than text messaging. Don't we have better things to do, like coach our current players?”

Kirk Ferentz, University of Iowa head football coach, stating his support for an NCAA panel’s push to ban text-message contact with high school recruits (Newsweek, April 30).

“We can employ all the latest technology and marketing strategies to get our message conveyed to prospective students, parents, and school officials. But one can't beat the value of a consistent message that clearly conveys the values of our institution.”

Michael Barron, assistant provost for enrollment services and director of admissions, saying the substance of a school’s message is more important than the innovative methods used to deliver the message (The Chronicle of Higher Education, April 27).

“IQ is typically a very stable trait.”

Ruth Spinks, assistant research scientist in the Department of Psychiatry in the Carver College of Medicine, referring to a study that shows a strong correlation between results of elementary school achievement tests and results of IQ tests administered in adulthood (Live Science, April 16).
