Offices and Awards

Jane Chalmers, associate professor of preventive and community dentistry in the College of Dentistry, has been appointed to the editorial board of the dental journal Gerondontology.

Leo Eko, associate professor of journalism and mass communication in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, had his video documentary Elephant-People: An African Secret Society in the Age of Globalization selected for screening by the Ethnographic
Section of La Museé de L'Homme (Museum of Humanity) in Paris, France.

Steve Levy, professor of preventive and community dentistry in the College of Dentistry, was selected to serve on the American Dental Association’s National Fluoridation Advisory Committee.

Christy Moroye, assistant professor of curriculum and supervision in the College of Education, received the American Educational Research Association Division B Outstanding Dissertation Award.

Chris Ogren, associate professor of educational policy and leadership studies in the College of Education, was elected secretary of the American Education Research Association’s Division F.

Tarrell Portman, associate professor of counseling, rehabilitation, and student development in the College of Education, was elected vice president of Native American Concerns for the Association for Multicultural Counseling and Development.

Timothy Ryken, associate professor in the Department of Neurosurgery in the Carver College of Medicine, has been named cochair of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons and Congress of Neurological Surgeons Joint Guidelines Committee.

Vilia Tarvydas, professor of counseling, rehabilitation, and student development in the College of Education, received the James F. Garrett Award for a Distinguished Career in Rehabilitation Research from the American Rehabilitation Counseling Association. Tarvydas also received the Distinguished Career in Rehabilitation Award from the National Council on Rehabilitation Education.

The Iowa Online Advanced Placement Academy in the College of Education was among six top programs featured in a U.S. Department of Education report, “Connecting students to advanced courses online: innovations in education.”
