Big Ten Network gives UI stories another place to shine
The Big Ten Network provides University of Iowa sports teams with an outlet to showcase their athletic feats. The network will broadcast Iowa's homecoming football game versus Indiana, and the men's basketball team will be a regular fixture on the channel. But if we're keeping score, let's not forget about the opportunity the network provides each Big Ten school to flaunt its stories from the world of academia and research. Each of the conference's member schools has 60 hours per year reserved for programming that showcases their academic programs, activities, faculty, staff, and students. “We have no shortage of stories to tell,” says Rick Klatt, director of athletic marketing and also a member of the programming committee. “We could easily produce three or four stories every week if we had the resources.”
fyi asks: What program would you produce for the Big Ten Network?Let's pretend you have all the resources needed to tell a story about The University of Iowa. Maybe you'd shine light on cutting-edge research; perhaps you'd rave about remarkable students. If you were creating programming about the University, what would your show be? Take a few minutes to answer the fyi reader survey at http://survey.uiowa.edu/wsb.dll/505/btnsurvey.htm. We'll publish answers in October.
UI law professor to help revise state criminal codeJames Tomkovicz, professor in the UI College of Law and an expert in criminal law and procedure, has been appointed to the legislature’s Criminal Code Reorganization Study Committee, a 15-member group that will review the entire Iowa Criminal Code and recommend changes to the state legislature. Tomkovicz hopes the scope of the committee's work will be extensive—it's been nearly three decades since the last revision.
