Center for Diversity and Enrichment brings new focus to UI programs
New college students have no shortage of questions or concerns about navigating their first year on campus. Staff members from the University of Iowa Center for Diversity and Enrichment (CDE) are armed with the answers and the support those students are seeking. “CDE is the first place I go if I have any questions, whether it’s about financial aid or my classes,” first-year student Chelsea Ceasar says. “The staff members are all supportive and they’re really good listeners.” Providing seamless, effective services to underrepresented students is exactly what CDE—the new name for several merged programs—is all about, says Marcella David, special assistant to the president for equal opportunity and diversity, and associate provost for diversity. fyi readers share Big Ten Network programming ideasFans of the Iowa Hawkeyes have turned their attention to the Big Ten Network. Two football games were shown on the network, and many Iowa basketball games will tip off on the BTN. But there's more to the network—and The University of Iowa—than athletics. Iowa has 60 hours of airtime set aside for nonathletic programming. So we asked you, the faithful fyi reader, what stories, offices, or people you would highlight if you could create programming for the network. Responders gave high marks to the various health care programs on campus, while others sang the praises of those who dance, dance, dance. Photo feature: Kinnick scenesThe athletics turf crew at The University of Iowa isn't just some by-the-numbers outfit. These guys make sure the grounds at Kinnick Stadium look luminous each Saturday afternoon in autumn (and early summer). It's been said that football is a game of inches, and the same can be said about prepping the field. The meticulous work done by these individuals makes that moment of reaching paydirt—a.k.a. the end zone—that much more beautiful. Recent features
