AchievementsUniversity staff and faculty are accomplishing great things every day. See Offices and AwardsFrancois Abboud, professor of internal medicine and molecular physiology and biophysics in the Carver College of Medicine, was named an American Heart Association Distinguished Scientist for 2007, and was inducted as president of the American Clinical and Climatological Association. Donald Heistad, professor of cardiology in the Carver College of Medicine, received the 2007 Distinguished Achievement Award from the American Heart Association’s Council on Arteriosclerosis, Thrombosis, and Vascular Biology. Michael Kanellis, assistant dean for patient care and professor of pediatric dentistry in the College of Dentistry, received the American Dental Association Golden Apple Award. Jeffrey Murray, professor of pediatrics in the Carver College of Medicine, received the Curt Stern Award from the American Society of Human Genetics. Ingo Titze, professor of speech pathology and audiology in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences with a joint appointment in the School of Music, has been selected to receive the Silver Medal in Speech Communication from the Acoustical Society of America. The staff of the Connie Belin and Jacqueline N. Blank International Center for Gifted Education and Talent Development received the Iowa Talented and Gifted Association’s Distinguished Service Award. UI Obesity Surgery, the bariatric surgery program in University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, was named a Center of Excellence by the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery.
