Survey: How are you coping with another wild winter?Temperatures have registered some 30 degrees below zero; snow has piled up at the end of the driveway, mocking us morning after morning. These conditions might be expected—this is Iowa, after all—but they have left some of us seeking relief. How are you coping with winter this year? We will publish select responses in a future issue of fyi. University employees banding together to Live Healthy in 2009 and beyond
The winter weather doesn’t stop Annabelle Hullana from exercising over her lunch hour. Not now that she has a team of health-minded office mates to rally and motivate her. Hullana, a counselor in the University of Iowa Office of Admissions, and her coworkers were among the more than 400 University of Iowa employees who signed up for Lighten Up Iowa—now Live Healthy Iowa—in 2008. The statewide program challenges teams of two to 10 adults to help each other form healthy habits in order to achieve fitness and weight loss goals.
When does the University take a snow day?Chances are pretty good you’ll wake up on an Iowa winter morning to find there’s a foot of snow on the ground, the white stuff is still coming down, and the mercury in your thermometer has fallen way below zero. Local elementary and secondary school classes have been canceled. How do you find out about University cancellations?
