Interpreting and Translation Services speaks volumes at UIHCSince its inception in 1975, the Interpreting and Translation Services at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics (UIHC) has assisted more than 200,000 people—patients, their relatives, and visitors—in approximately 50 oral and signed languages. That’s pretty impressive, in any language.
Four UI faculty members win top teaching awardFour University of Iowa faculty members have won the 2009 President and Provost Award For Teaching Excellence in recognition of their years of outstanding teaching. The recipients are: George Bergus, professor of family medicine in the Roy J. and Lucille A. Carver College of Medicine; Kenneth Brown, associate professor of management and organizations in the Henry B. Tippie College of Business; Randall Bezanson, professor in the College of Law; and Kathleen Kamerick, lecturer in history in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.

Are you down with Powering Down for the Planet?
The average desktop computer wastes nearly half the power delivered to it, which translates into higher energy bills and unnecessary greenhouse gas emissions. On Monday, March 23, The University of Iowa and college campuses across the world will ask students, faculty, and staff to pledge to “Power Down for the Planet” by making simple changes to their personal computers’ power management settings. Managers of UI campus computers that sit idle at night are making a similar commitment.
