Following the presentation, the board directed the Regents institutions to submit summary budgets that it will vote on in June, and final, detailed budgets that it will vote on in August. Additionally, the board announced that it is forming two task forces to examine cost saving opportunities for fiscal year 2011. The task forces will issue a preliminary report in September and a final report in December.

The Regents did approve two measures of The University of Iowa's current cost-saving plan for fiscal year 2010: an early retirement incentive program and a phased retirement program. Proposal descriptions—and audio from the presentation of these proposals—can be found at http://budget.uiowa.edu/mason_audiopdf.
