Update—May 11:
Working at Iowa: Faculty, staff provide positive response about UI work experienceIn 2008, 62.3 percent of University of Iowa employees took the Working at Iowa survey. An even greater number of employees likely will be interested in the results, which are now available for review. The 2008 results show that University staff and faculty are positive about their overall work experience. The results also identify areas where things can continue to improve. Kevin Ward, executive associate director of human resources, spoke with fyi about the 2008 results and the next steps for the Working at Iowa program.
Landscape Services staff keeping eye on beetles lurking across state bordersAn invasive beetle that feeds on—and eventually kills—ash trees has been discovered just across Iowa’s borders with Wisconsin and Minnesota. Given that the University of Iowa campus has between 700 and 800 ash trees on maintained areas of campus, an infestation of the emerald ash borer could pose a significant risk to the UI campus landscape. |

For years, University of Iowa students have been swapping messages, pictures, and postings about what’s going on in their lives through Facebook, the popular social media outlet that connects people with friends and others who work, study, and live around them, or with people who share their interests.
And then there’s Twitter, a way to communicate and stay connected through the exchange of quick, frequent answers to one simple question: what are you doing?
But students aren’t the only members of the University of Iowa community linked by social media. Several University of Iowa departments have turned to social media sites as outreach tools for communication with students, alumni, and others interested in the University.
UI president Sally Mason presented The University of Iowa's proposed budget for fiscal year 2010 to the Board of Regents, State of Iowa, at its meeting on April 30. Mason's PowerPoint presentation, audio of the presentation, and audio of remarks by Regents president David Miles are now available at http://budget.uiowa.edu/mason_audiopdf.
In the Kuhl House on the University of Iowa campus, a small but energetic staff handles acquisitions, manuscript editing, and proofreading, design, production, and marketing for the University of Iowa Press. Constructed around 1840 using limestone that was quarried nearby, the Kuhl House is the oldest house still standing in Iowa City.
