Saba Ali, assistant professor of counseling psychology in the College of Education, was appointed to a three-year term as editor of the American Psychological Association Society of Counseling Psychology’s newsletter.

Michael Barron, assistant provost for enrollment services and director of admissions, was named “Admissions Professional of the Year” by the Iowa Association for College Admission Counseling.

Dean Borg, senior correspondent/producer for WSUI AM910, received the 2008 Jack Shelley Award from the Iowa Broadcast News Association.

Jay Currie, professor of clinical and administrative pharmacy in the College of Pharmacy, accepted a fellowship in the 2008–09 Committee on Institutional Cooperation Academic Leadership Program.

Kimberly Gordon, director of continuing education and outreach at the Heartland Center for Occupational Health and Safety, and program associate II in the College of Public Health, was named a fellow by the American Association of Occupational Health Nurses (AAOHN), and inducted to her second three-year term on the AAOHN Board of Directors (North Central Region).

Greg Hamot, professor of teaching and learning in the College of Education, was named state director of the “We the People” program.

John Lundell, deputy director of the University of Iowa Injury Prevention Research Center, received the Ellen R. Schmidt Award from the State and Territorial Injury Prevention Directors Association.

Paula A. Michaels, associate professor of history in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, has been awarded a fellowship for the 2008–09 academic year at the
National Humanities Center.

Thanos Papanicolaou, associate professor of civil and environmental engineering in the College of Engineering, received the 2008 Walter L. Huber Civil Engineering Research Prize from the American Society of Civil Engineers.

Katrina Sanders-Cassell, associate professor of social foundations in education in the College of Education, was appointed to the position of book review editor of History of Education Quarterly.

Jeff Schmidt, news producer for WSUI AM910, received two awards for farm/agribusiness reporting and investigative reporting from the Iowa Broadcast News Association.

Leslie Schrier, associate professor of teaching and learning and foreign languages/ESL education in the College of Education, served as guest editor of Hispania, the official journal of the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese.

Kris Waltman, associate director of the Center for Evaluation and Assessment in the College of Education, received the Distinguished Research Award from the Iowa Educational Research & Evaluation Association.

The staff of the Connie Belin & Jacqueline N. Blank International Center for Gifted Education and Talent Development received the Iowa Talented and Gifted Association’s Distinguished Service Award.

The Belin-Blank Center’s Online AP Academy was selected by the U.S. Department of Education as one of the nation’s top six programs.
