See Offices and AwardsChristoph Beckermann, UI Foundation Distinguished Professor in the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering and director of the UI Solidification Laboratory, will receive the 2010 Bruce Chalmers Award from the Minerals, Metals, and Materials Society. Ronald Ettinger, professor of prosthodontics in the College of Dentistry, was selected as the 2010 recipient of the International Association for Dental Research Distinguished Scientist Award for Research in Prosthodontics and Implants. Barry Greenberg, UI Residential Dining executive chef, was awarded first-place honors and named Chef Par Excellence in the Iowa Pork Producers Association Taste of Elegance Competition at the Des Moines Marriott. David Johnsen, dean of the College of Dentistry, has been selected as the 2010 recipient of the American Association for Dental Research Jack Hein Public Service Award. Douglas Jones, associate professor of computer science in the University of Iowa College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, was appointed to the U.S. Election Assistance Commission’s Technical Guidelines Development Committee. Larissa Samuelson, associate professor of psychology in the UI College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, has received the 2010 American Psychological Association Distinguished Scientific Award for Early Career Contribution to Psychology in the area of developmental psychology. Leonard Sandler, University of Iowa clinical professor of law, has been appointed to the Iowa Advisory Committee of the United States Civil Rights Commission. Rebecca Slayton, professor of pediatric dentistry in the College of Dentistry, was elected to participate in the American Dental Education Association Leadership Institute. James Wefel, director of the Dows Institute for Dental Research and professor of pediatric dentistry in the College of Dentistry, has been selected to receive the 2010 International Association for Dental Research E.W. Borrow Memorial Award. Dale Eric Wurster, senior associate dean of the UI Graduate College and professor of pharmaceutics and translational therapeutics in the College of Pharmacy, has been named the recipient of the 2009 Research Achievement Award in Manufacturing Science and Engineering conferred by the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists. The University of Iowa’s Junior Mini Medical program received the 2010 Award for Excellence from the AAMC–Group on Institutional Advancement in the category of "Shoestring" Public Affairs/Community Relations, which acknowledges the most creative and effective approaches used to promote academic medicine in the United States at a time of budget and staffing limitations.
