Offices and Awards

Stephen Bloom, professor in the School of Journalism and Mass Communication in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, won a gold medal for most original concept in the Independent Publisher Book Awards.

John Buatti, professor of radiation oncology in the Carver College of Medicine, was named a fellow of the American College of Radiology.

P. Barry Butler, dean of the College of Engineering, has elected to serve on the board of directors of the American Wind Energy Association.

Kevin Campbell, professor and head of molecular physiology and biophysics in the Carver College of Medicine, is a corecipient of the March of Dimes Prize in Developmental Biology.

Deanna Carter, assistant professor of dance in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, has been selected to participate in the National Choreographers Initiative 2009.

Charles Connerly, professor and director of urban and regional planning in the Graduate College, has been elected to a leadership role in the Association of Collegiate Schools of Planning.

Peter Feldstein, professor emeritus in the School of Art and Art History in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, won a gold medal for most original concept in the Independent Publisher Book Awards.

Anne Kwitek, associate professor of internal medicine and molecular physiology and biophysics in the Carver College of Medicine, has received a Young Scholars Award from the American Society of Hypertension.

Cathy Skotowski, assistant in instruction of pediatric dentistry in the College of Dentistry, won the Honor Clinic Award from the Iowa Dental Association.

Burns Weston, Bessie Dutton Murray Distinguished Professor of Law Emeritus and Senior Scholar, The University of Iowa Center for Human Rights, was conferred the degree of Doctor of Laws Honoris Causa (LL.D.) by the Board of Trustees of Vermont Law School.

Axel Ruprecht, professor of oral pathology, radiology, and medicine in the College of Dentistry, was an invited speaker at the 20th Saudi Dental Society and 2nd National Guard International Conference and Workshops in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
