Offices and Awards

Francois Abboud, professor of internal medicine in the Carver College of Medicine, has been appointed to the Decadal Survey on Biological and Physical Sciences in Space: Animal and Human Biology Panel, which operates through the National Academies.

Sam Burer, associate professor of management sciences in the Tippie College of Business, was named associate editor of Operations Research Letters for 2009–11.

Jon Garfinkel, associate professor of finance in the Tippie College of Business, was named to Kline Capital Group's Clean Tech Fund Advisory Board.

Gregory C. Gray, director of the Center for Emerging Infectious Diseases and professor of epidemiology in the College of Public Health, has been selected as an ad hoc reviewer for NIAID’s study section Infectious Diseases, Reproductive Health, Asthma and Pulmonary Conditions (IRAP).

Maria L. Kraimer, associate professor of management and organizations in the Tippie College of Business, was named to the editorial board of the Journal of Human Resource Management for 2009–11.

Michael Mount, professor of management and organizations in the Tippie College of Business, received the Distinguished Scientific Contributions Award (jointly with M. Barrick) from the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology.

Donna Pearcy, chief risk officer in the Department of Risk Management, Insurance, and Loss Prevention, received the Distinguished Risk Manager award from the University Risk Management and Insurance Association.

Mark C. Penno, professor of accounting in the Tippie College of Business, received Accounting Horizon's Best Paper Award from the American Accounting Association.

Sara L. Rynes-Weller, professor of management and organizations in the Tippie College of Business, was named to the editorial board of Human Resource Management for 2009-12.

Frank L. Schmidt, professor of management and organizations in the Tippie College of Business, was named to the editorial board of Review of Work and Organizational Psychology.

Daniel L. Swenson, adjunct lecturer of finance in the Tippie College of Business, was named to the Manufacturers Alliance Investor Relations Board.

Gustavo J. Ventura, associate professor of economics in the Tippie College of Business, received the Terker Family Prizes in Investment Research from the Rodney L. White Center for Financial Research.

Philip Wertz, professor of oral pathology, radiology, and medicine in the College of Dentistry, has been selected to serve on the editorial board for Transdermal Magazine.

Ryan J. Wilson, assistant professor of accounting in the Tippie College of Business, was named to the editorial boards of the Journal of the American Taxation Association and Accounting Horizons.

 

Lectures and Presentations

Samuel Burer, associate professor of management sciences in the Tippie College of Business, presented "Optimizing a Polyhedral-Semidefinite Relaxation of Completely Positive Programs," at the International Symposium on Mathematical Programming, Mathematical Programming Society, in August in Chicago.

William Clarke, director of the Clinical Trials Statistical & Data Management Center and professor of biostatistics in the College of Public Health, participated as faculty members in the weeklong NINDS Clinical Trials Methods in Neurology course Aug. 16–22 in Vail, Colo. 

Christopher Coffey, deputy director of the Clinical Trials Statistical & Data Management Center and professor of biostatistics in the College of Public Health, participated as faculty members in the weeklong NINDS Clinical Trials Methods in Neurology course Aug. 16–22 in Vail, Colo.. 

Ronald Ettinger, professor of prosthodontics in the College of Dentistry, was a moderator and speaker during the symposium “Comprehensive Oral Care for the Elderly” at the 9th World Congress on Preventive Dentistry, which was held Sept. 7–10 in Phuket, Thailand.

R. William Field, professor of occupational and environmental health in the College of Public Health, presented the keynote address at this year's International Radon Symposium in September in St. Louis.

Amy Kristof-Brown, professor of management and organizations in the Tippie College of Business, presented "Current Controversies in Recruitment and Selection," "Current Controversies in Recruitment and Selection," "Developing the Person-Environment Fit Research Agenda," and "Negotiating Your First Tenure Track Position" in August to the Academy of Management in Chicago.

Gale Mote, management and organizations lecturer in the Tippie College of Business, presented "Rockin' Chapter Leadership Teams" in June to the Heartland District–APICS in Des Moines; "Spring Cleaning: Helpful Tips and Techniques to Spruce Up Your Attitude" in June at the Federal Women's Program Career Day, Veteran's Administration, in Grinnell; and "Non-Financial Metrics: What? Why? How?" in June to SHRM–Eastern Iowa Chapter in Cedar Rapids.

Sonja Rego, associate professor of accounting in the Tippie College of Business, presented "Regulation, Taxes, and Accounting Processes and Outcomes" in June at the AAA Doctoral Consortium in Lake Tahoe, Nev.

Thomas Rietz, associate professor of finance in the Tippie College of Business, presented "Predicting the Future: Thoughts on the Use of Predictive Markets in the Context of Labor Market Information" in July at the Midwest Innovation Initiative Innovations in Labor Market Information in Chicago; and "Memoirs of an Indifferent Trader: Estimating Forecast Distributions from Prediction Markets" in June to the Economic Science Association in Washington, D.C., and at the University of Virginia, McIntire School of Commerce seminar.

Clark Stanford, associate dean for research and professor of prosthodontics in the College of Dentistry, provided the keynote address “Enhancing the Bone Implant Interface” at the 13th Biennial Meeting of the International College of Prosthodontists Sept. 10–13 in Cape Town, South Africa.
