Dance classes beginning

The dance department will be offering a full range of dance classes for the entire University community on weekdays and Saturdays through its Dance Forum Program.

Classes, which include ballet, tap, jazz, modern, Latin, and body conditioning, begin Feb. 3 in Halsey Hall and continue through May 5.

Intramural league signups

Recreational Services is offering the following intramural activities for faculty, staff, and students:

  • Wrestling: There is no cost to enter this single elimination tournament, which takes place Feb. 13-14 and 19-20. Teams must have a minimum of three members and no more than nine. No prior registration is necessary, but there is a mandatory weigh-in 1-6pm, Feb. 12, at the FH.

  • Darts (men’s, women’s, and coed divisions): Cost is $3 per person or $4 per team. There will be a single elimination tournament at College Street Billiards Club. Register by noon on Feb. 5.

  • Billiards (men’s, women’s, and coed divisions): Cost is $3 per person or $5 per team. Register for this single elimination tournament by noon on Feb. 5.

Discourse & Dining

Associated University Women (AUW) will host a discussion on the contributions of African-Americans to the state of Iowa. Joseph McGill, executive director of the African-American Historical Museum & Cultural Center of Iowa, will lead the discussion, noon-1pm, Feb. 7, in the Lucas-Dodge Room, IMU. Each month, AUW sponsors Discourse & Dining—a series of casual discussions with an invited speaker. Bring your lunch!



Meet the challenge

UI Wellness announces its new incentive program, Meet the Challenge. The eight-week, web-based program will provide an opportunity to develop and maintain healthy behaviors in the areas of emotional wellness, physical activity, and nutrition.

Meet the Challenge includes an aerobic exercise program tailored to the beginner, intermediate, or advanced level; a strength training guide for muscle toning; strategies for sound nutrition and some new recipes; various stress management techniques; and realistic weekly goals.

Peace Corps rep available

Shelby Contreras, campus representative for the Peace Corps, is available to visit classes to discuss the benefits of travel and community service, as well as the challenges of living in Africa. She has a slide show presentation of her Peace Corps experience in Botswana.
