Fall 2000 IOWA winners
University of Iowa staff members were honored for their contribution to
improving the quality of the workplace. The IOWA (Improving our Workplace
Awards) winners are listed below, along with their nominators.
Teams
- Pediatric Intensive Care Unit nursingLori Alliss, Sue
Crimmins, Tina Davenport, Kathleen Donovan, Barb Freyenberger, Jeanna
Humpton, and Tricia Michna
This team succeeded in providing more timely communication between physicians
and parents on the medical plan of care for the child and eliminated
a previously long period of absence from their childs bedside
each morning. Nominated by Barbara Freyenberger.
- Facilities Services Group orientation teamDarlene Clausen,
Bryan Cooling, Dave Jackson, Gary Jacobs, Rodney Lehnertz, Mark Minor-Nidey,
and Dave Willis
The team was formed to improve the orientation program and handle administrative
issues. Their efforts have translated into improved retention and staff
who are more quickly engaged in providing a physical environment that
promotes University excellence. Nominated by Al Stroh and Susan Klatt.
- Disinfection protocol teamLarry Afifi, Sherry David,
Cindy Dawson, Chuck Kupka, Garret Locke, Glenda Mueller, Mike Murphy,
Janet Roe, Tim Ruffin, Terri Stoner, Jane Utech, Joyce Vavra, Sheila
White
The team reviewed current practices and recommended a standard protocol
for use of a high-level disinfectant. Their efforts reflect a savings
of over $5,400 annually. Nominated by Terri Stoner.
Individuals
- Joe Schwarzhoff, Facilities Services Group, utilities
Joe was instrumental in proposing, designing, and implementing a number
of improvements which result in improved performance of the utility
system. Nominated by Ferman Milster.
- Rosemary Stenzel, French and Italian
Rosemary provides support to both undergraduates and graduate students
in helping them make the most of their UI experience. She has been called
the "heart and soul of the department." Nominated by Downing
Thomas.
- Lisa Beckman, Clinical Outreach Services
As a database analyst, Lisa has made numerous changes that have resulted
in a streamlined on-line system that enables departmental personnel
to generate reports in minutes, rather than the previously required
hours.
