Grad College seeks associate dean for academic affairs

The Graduate College is seeking nominations and applications for the position of associate dean for graduate academic affairs. The associate dean manages and supports the curriculum and academic activities of the graduate faculty and students in approximately 100 graduate programs enrolling more than 6,000 students. Primary areas of responsibility include academic programs, student records, academic grievances, external committees, and adviser to and representative of the dean. David Wiemer, currently serving as interim associate dean, has announced his intention to return full-time to the faculty in the Department of Chemistry at the end of the fall 2001 semester. The date of appointment will be Jan. 1, 2002.

It is anticipated that the person appointed will hold the rank of professor at The University of Iowa and have experience directing graduate theses/dissertations and, preferably, experience in administration of academic programs at the departmental and/or collegiate level. A description of the duties associated with this position can be found on the Graduate College home page, www.uiowa.edu/~gradcoll, or from Caroline Mast in the Graduate College, (33)5-2142.

This position is a critical one for graduate education at The University of Iowa. Faculty are encouraged to apply or nominate others. Please send nominations or application materials (letter of application, CV, and names of persons who might serve as useful references with regard to experience and background for the position) or requests for additional information to the Graduate College, 205 GILH, or via e-mail to john-keller@uiowa.edu. Women and minorities are encouraged to apply.
