Current early retirement program expires June 2002

At its July meeting, the Board of Regents, State of Iowa, agreed to allow the current UI early retirement program to expire in June 2002. The five-year early retirement window was created in 1986 to encourage a revitalized faculty and had been renewed in 1992 and 1997.

The early retirement program is available until June 2002 to faculty, P&S, and merit staff members between 57 and 64 years of age with at least 15 years of service. The University contributes to the retiree’s TIAA/CREF account and to health and dental insurance until age 65. The existing Phased Retirement Program was extended through June 30, 2007.

For its November meeting, the board has scheduled discussion of principles that would guide the development of future retirement incentive programs.
