We Invite International Students and Families to Join Us To...

  • Be welcomed into an American home
  • Have fun eating, talking, and playing together
  • Meet interesting people from around the world and learn about their cultures
  • Make caring, supportive friends
  • If you are a Christian, grow in your faith; in not, learn about Christianity in a relaxed atmosphere
Participate In Any of These Activities:
  • Geneva International Fellowship (Friendship Circle)

We meet almost  every Friday evening at the Laarman home from 7:00—9:00 pm. We gather, connect, and share a snack. Then for an hour we discuss a Bible passage or another topic, led by one of the members of the group. Next we share a delicious meal. Those who wish may stay longer to play cards, play games, or just talk. Open to both graduate and undergraduate students and their families. No charge.

  • The Pella Farm Tour

Experience rural ethnic America with a weekend visit to Pella, Iowa. Pella is a small town founded in 1847 by immigrants from the Netherlands, and it retains much of its Dutch flavor.  We will leave on Saturday morning, October 6, and return Sunday afternoon, October 7, 2007. We will tour farms that produce grain, cattle, hogs, and dairy products, stay overnight at the home of a Pella family, attend a Dutch-American church on Sunday morning, and share Sunday dinner with the family. We return to Iowa City at about 4 p.m. on Sunday. All for $10, including transportation!

  • The International Stone Soup Society

American and international undergraduates get to know each other and learn about each other’s cultures. Mingle at a monthly party and meal at the Laarman home, 4-6 p.m. on Sunday evenings, Sept. 30, Oct. 14, Nov. 11, and Dec. 2. No charge.

  • International Women’s Friendship Group

Women spouses of international students are invited to the Laarman home on Tuesdays, from 12-3 p.m. Meet new friends, share a lunch, and discuss the Bible together. No charge.
