Edmund D. Pellegrino, MD is Professor Emeritus of Medicine and Medical Ethics, a Senior Research Scholar of the Kennedy Institute of Ethics, and Adjunct Professor of Philosophy at Georgetown. He is the former Director of the Center for the Advanced Study of Ethics and founder of the Center for Clinical Bioethics at Georgetown University. He received his B.S. from St. JohnÕs University and his M.D. from New York University. He has been a department chair, dean, and university president, and is the author of over 550 published items in medical science, philosophy, and ethics, a member of numerous editorialboards and recipient of 46 honorary degrees. Dr. PelligrinoÕs research interest include the history and philosophy of medicine, professional ethics, and the physician-patient relationship.
