The Crucial Need for a Prayer Team
The night before Jesus was crucified, as he was preparing his disciples to carry on his mission, he told them: “Apart from me you can do nothing” (John 15:5). Through years of ministry experience I have come to see how true that is. Jesus also told his disciples that night, “I chose you and appointed you to go and bear fruit—fruit that will last. Then the Father will give you whatever you ask in my name” (John 15:16). All the “yous” in the passage are plural. Together we are called to bear fruit—eternal fruit—for the Kingdom of God. What a privilege!
But we can only succeed through united prayer to the Father in the name of Jesus. That is why I am seeking people who feel called to join in partnership with Geneva Campus Ministry by praying regularly that the ministry will bear fruit for the Kingdom of God. I invite you to join the “GPS Team.” GPS stands for “Geneva Prayer Support,” though I think we are a kind of “global positioning system” since we are in position right here in Iowa City to literally have an impact for Christ around the world!
15 Minutes Per Week
That doesn’t sound like much, but 15 minutes can be hard to come by sometimes! And for many of us it is hard to maintain a regular practice of praying for one thing. So I am asking you to seriously consider whether you can take on this commitment at this time. If not, please pray for us occasionally when you think of it. All prayer is valuable and appreciated! If you feel called to be a regular prayer partner, this is the minimum commitment I ask of GPS Team members:
- Read the short weekly prayer letter I will send by email or regular mail
- Pray at least once a week for the ministry, guided by the prayer letter
- Commit to do this until June 30 next year (at which time I will ask you if you
would like to commit for another year)
Note: I will not ask my GPS Team members for money (though I might occasionally
ask you to pray that money comes in!)
