Margaret Carrel conducts medical geographic research using GIS and spatial statistical techniques; she uses these methods to explore how complex interactions between people and environments result both in disease outcomes and the progressive evolution of human pathogens.

Heather Sander utilizes spatial models and GIS analysis to forecast land-use change and its associated environmental impacts. This research centers both on increasing our understanding of human-environment interactions related to land use and on the development of methods and systems for making this information policy-relevant.

Kathleen Stewart is interested in topics relating to spatiotemporal modeling and dynamic GIS, as well as ontologies and their role for GIS. She also has research projects underway that involve flood hazards research.
Eric Tate applies GIS modeling to investigate the impacts of natural hazards on society. He is particularly interested in physical and social vulnerability to floods.
