Marc Armstrong

Marc Armstrong (chairperson) is interested in GIScience theory and applications; much of his work involves the use of advanced cyberinfrastructure (e.g., wireless and Grid computing). He also works on the development of new methods in spatial analysis and cartography

Dave Bennett is interested in the theory and application of GIScience as it applies to environmental decision-making and the simulation of coupled natural/human system dynamics. Much of his current work is focused on the development and use of agent-based models and evolutionary algorithms for the study of such dynamics.

Margeret Carrel

Margaret Carrel conducts medical geographic research using GIS and spatial statistical techniques; she uses these methods to explore how complex interactions between people and environments result both in disease outcomes and the progressive evolution of human pathogens.

Marc Linderman utilizes remote sensing data to examine human/environment interactions, land cover change, and ecosystem dynamics; his work has focused on the tallgrass prairie region of the U.S., southwest China, and across the continent of Africa.

Claire Pavlik

Claire Pavlik is instructor for Introduction to Human Geography and the Global Economy, both General Education Program courses in the  Social Science area.  She also teaches Mapping American Cities and  Regions, which uses a GIS-based approach to examine the social  geography of US cities.

Heather Sander

Heather Sander utilizes spatial models and GIS analysis to forecast land-use change and its associated environmental impacts. This research centers both on increasing our understanding of human-environment interactions related to land use and on the development of methods and systems for making this information policy-relevant.
