Teaching Labs
THE GISIL
The Geographical Information Systems Instructional Lab (GISIL) is a state-of-the-art computer lab used to teach GIS, cartography and remote sensing. It is also used as a research facility for students and to conduct research into mobile geographical education (MoGEO) using personal data assistants (PDAs). The lab is also used to host visiting students who are considering a future at The University of Iowa. The Opportunity at Iowa program regularly brings high-school students in to look at the campus and the available facilities.

Laboratory TAs are on duty during all of the scheduled operational hours and course TAs monitor those times when classes meet in the lab.
We continue to fund the computer laboratory and have recently upgraded to 24" LCD monitors. Also, starting in Fall 2005 we will use the laboratory to teach ESRI GIS classes. We will add courses as the instructor becomes authorized to teach additional courses. We will offer significant discounts to students, faculty and staff of The University of Iowa. More information will be posted here.
