A native of Pennsylvania, I came to the University of Iowa in August 2004 after finishing my A.B. at Georgetown University with a major in German and minors in theology and business. My concentration is Germanic linguistics; I completed my M.A. in the department in 2006 and am currently working on my Ph.D. As an undergraduate, I spent a year studying German and theology at Eberhard-Karls-Universität Tübingen. I have a range of academic interests that include synchronic studies as well as second language acquisition and language variation and change. My Master's thesis was a corpus-based analysis of German extended adjective constructions, and I am currently examining the acquisition of verbal morphology in learners of German. I have been involved with the Graduate Student Senate, and currently serve as its president; in the past I have sung with the School of Music's Camerata Singers.
